25 Oct. 2010 - Zechariah 5:1-4

Zechariah 5:1-4
"the flying scroll"

This time, Zechariah sees a massive scroll - 30 ft long, 15 ft wide. The angel who's been with Zechariah throughout the visions explains that it is the curse that is going over the whole land, according to what is written on it. one side said that all thieves will be punished and the other said that all liars will be punished... personally, i have not met anyone who had never lied and i've met many people that have stolen stuff, it doesn't matter how small. In a sense all of humanity, which is sinful, is condemned. this, i think, is the concept that God is trying to convey to and through Zechariah.

Kinda puts us in need of a someone or something to remove the curse. But how? who can remove our sinfulness and make us righteous so that we might escape this curse? Is there anyone who can save us from this fate?

Jesus can.

Jesus died, carrying all of our sins. He had no sin and, as such, was acceptable for the offering. An unblemished lamb was needed for sacrifices, according to the law of God given in the old testament, to remove sin. To remove sin permanently, something more precious had to be given. So, God sent his only son to live a pure, sinless life so that he could take the sins of everyone in the world in every time and die with them taking them to the grave.

Now, if Christ had stayed dead, there would be nothing, no salvation in Christianity, but Christ didn't stay dead. instead, he broke the chain of sin and death (death was the only punishment fit for sin) allowing us to receive God's grace, and was resurrected. from this resurrection, all Christians have the hope of eternity in heaven instead of eternal damnation for their sins in hell...

Got Christ?
