17 Oct. 2010 - James 5:7-12

James 5:7-12
"patience in suffering"

James starts the passage off with an encouragement to be patient and wait for Christ to return. He compares the wait to that of a farmer, waiting for the spring rains and fall harvest. He then reiterates that we must be patient. (kinda like a sandwich - patience, comparison, patience - i forget what the term's called). Also, while we are waiting, we shouldn't be quarreling with, but should be supporting each other.

James then encourages the believers to persevere. look at the prophets. look at Job. they persevered in times of trial and hardship, but in the end the Lord brought about blessing because of their perseverance. blessed is he who perseveres.

"Finally, let your yes be yes and your no be no." james calls us to refrain from making binding oaths - we should not need to. we should be able to keep to our word without the assistance of a formal oath. Honesty is key.
