Amos 6:8-14
"the Lord abhors the pride of Israel"
Here, as the section heading so nicely states, the Lord is speaking out against the pride of Israel. In particular, the Lord is angry about Israels pride in their accomplishments and their possessions. Israel, in their pride, has twisted justice and righteousness and the absurdity of this is compared to plowing rock (v 12). As a result, the Lord would send a nation to invade and overrun them (this being the Assyrians)...
I guess you could say pride comes before a fall...
