10 Oct. 2010 - James 2:1-13

James 2:1-13
"favoritism forbidden"

James starts off saying that we should not show favor to one person over another because of their apparent wealth. by doing so we become judges of others and begin entertaining what James terms "evil thoughts" Why does he say this? God chose those who are poor according to the world, but rich in faith to inherit the the kingdom of heaven. As for the rich, they were, and sometimes are, the ones extorting the people of money, dragging them into court or even speaking falsely of the Lord.

If we really held to the law, "love your neighbor as yourself," we would not show favoritism and, by showing favoritism we sin and by sinning we break the law. for anyone who breaks one law has broken the Law in its entirety and has become a lawbreaker.

So, rather than speaking as one who is judge, speak as one who is judged - with mercy, because he who doesn't show mercy will receive none.
