Back into the swing of things

I'm needing a little better Bible study an accountability in my life, so I'm getting back into keeping this blog as my bible study. This isn't meant to be some kind of evangelical outreach, but my personal journal. I say that because I felt in the past like that is what this blog had become.

There are going to be a few differences to my past approaches.

  1. I'm going to be following the ESV Study Bible Plan, which I found, thanks to Ligonier Ministries.
  2. While I'll be listing the scriptures read, I may not link to them, as has been done in the past, but feel free to look them up on a source, like BibleGateway. I will be using e-Sword most days as I'll be doing mine before class starts.
  3. I'll be following a method (S.O.A.P.) gained from Creative Bible Study, which I stumbled across while looking for a plan for one of the kids in my church's youth group.
    • Scripture
    • Observations
    • Application
    • Prayer
Keep me in your prayers as I delve deeper into God's word and try to further cement my relationship with Him. Be praying for my wife as well, as God's used her to be the catalyst for this delving, something which I am immensely grateful for and rather abashed that I had been slacking on.

We're Back!

To you few faithful readers, we're back

Why was I gone? well, I like to mix up my devotional time, so I took some time away from blogging my thoughts on what I was reading. Now, I'm back!

Apologies

Hey all,
Sorry for the complete lack of posts this past week. While I  have still been having my "Quiet Time", I have been running very short on time and have not been able to post my Devo Notes/Musings.

22 Jan. 2012 - Genesis 26:34-35

Genesis 26:34-35
"Esau's Wives"

In case you're wondering "Why only two verses?", I will explain. I do my devotionals per heading, so sometimes I have a massive passage, which I might split up, or sometimes (i.e Genesis 24 pt. 1 & pt. 2) I might have a really short passage, like today.

Essentially, this passage names the two wives of Esau and how they made life difficult for his parents. Why, it doesn't say. It could be because they were not from the homeland of Esau's grandfather, Abraham; it could be that they were two remarkably pleasant young ladies; or it could be due to a completely different reason.

I looked back in the Bible, at earlier chapters, and found nothing that might indicate a reason for such a poor in-law relationship.

There are still, though, some morsels that may be gleaned:

  • When marrying someone, it helps greatly if your fiancé/fianceé gets along well with your family.
  • Don't marry more than one spouse. The way the passage is written it seems to suggest that that may be a factor in the conflict.

Intro to Devo Notes

Hey, Welcome to Devo Notes!

As you may have noticed, there are a whole ton of posts from 2010 that are all dated under today. Devo Notes is a project I started Oct 2010 in which I took notes from my daily devotionals and posted them on Facebook's Notes app. While the practice of posting fell away during the consequent Winter break,, I still kept up with keeping my quiet time, I recently went back through my old Notes blog posts and posting them on TCM and discovered all my old Devo notes and have decided to resume the practice, so enjoy!
